There may be several reasons why our bowels do not work as effectively as they could do – symptoms such as bloating, constipation and poor skin being indicators of this. As beings that evolved on natural ‘hunter-gatherer’ diets, we are now subject to being polluted through the food we eat and the environment we are exposed to. Emotional pressures and the stress of today’s lifestyle can affect our natural balance and cause malfunction which can show itself through our bowel habits. One only has to listen to common expressions such as ‘verbal diahorrhea’, ‘nervous tummy’ and being ‘anally retentive’ to acknowledge the link between our minds and bowels (our second brain). You should allow approximately 75-90 minutes for an initial treatment allowing time for a full consultation covering current health problems and diet and lifestyle and to discuss any questions and anxieties. Then you will be asked to change in our en-suite facilities. During the treatment you will be fully covered with towels. We will then examine your abdomen and perform a light massage. You will then roll onto your left hand side. There is a slight pressure when the speculum is introduced and this may be slightly uncomfortable for a few seconds but should never be painful. All of our Colonic Irrigation equipment is single use and disposable.

We will then begin to introduce the water to the colon – this is done in cycles and we use massage to assist the bowel in expelling waste. The system is closed meaning that all waste goes directly into the mains. Most people find the treatment a relaxing experience!

Following the treatment, you will be asked to sit on the toilet and allow the bowel to empty of any left water and waste. We will then discuss the treatment and results and any future recommendations.

We initially recommend a second Colonic Irrigation treatment one to two weeks following the initial treatment – this act’s as a good marker to how the therapy has worked and through experience we have found that this gives better results. This may be due to hydration of the bowel and non-transient faeces making them easier to remove, the improvement in bowel tone following a first treatment and possibly feeling more relaxed about the treatment!

Following treatment, you can carry on as normal although you may feel a little tired.

We recommend maintenance courses of a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment every 3 months to boost the body and send out maintenance passports accordingly. Following successful treatment, one can normally sense when a treatment is due.
